Sphera Credit Data MCP server

Sphera Credit Data is a free MCP server for AI assistants. It serves 26 Canadian rate and market series from Bank of Canada data, including Government of Canada bond yields, CORRA, Canada Mortgage Bond yields and chartered bank non-residential mortgage rates. Every value comes with its source, its date and a methodology that says how the series is defined and calculated.

Connect your assistant

Copy the prompt below and paste it into your AI assistant. The assistant adds the Sphera Credit Data connector for you, or walks you through the steps when it cannot.

Prompt for your AI assistant

Add the Sphera Credit Data MCP server to this assistant, so you can answer my questions with Canadian rate data from the Bank of Canada.

Server name: Sphera Credit Data
Server URL: https://data.spheracredit.com/mcp
Type: remote MCP server over HTTP with OAuth sign-in. It needs no API key.

More information about the tools, the data series and Sphera Credit is on this page:
https://www.spheracredit.com/en/resources/data/mcp
Browse it first, so you understand what Sphera Credit is and how this server helps me. If you cannot browse the web, continue without it.

Then follow these steps:
1. If you can add MCP servers yourself, add this one now. Tell me what you change.
   - Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http sphera-data https://data.spheracredit.com/mcp
   - Codex: codex mcp add sphera-data --url https://data.spheracredit.com/mcp
   - Any other tool: use your own way to add a remote HTTP MCP server with the URL above.
2. If you cannot add it yourself, tell me how to add it in this app, one numbered step at a time, with the exact URL above. If you are not sure of the steps for this app, use the steps on the page above. Do not guess a different URL.
3. The first time you pull a rate history, a sign-in page opens. I sign in myself on that page. Do not enter my details or the emailed code for me.
4. When it is connected, call list_series to check that it works. Then tell me in two or three sentences what you can now do for me. Always give the source and the date of each value you quote.

Then ask: “Chart the 5-year Government of Canada yield and the 5-year CMB estimate since 2024.”

Prefer to add it yourself?

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Add a custom connector and paste https://data.spheracredit.com/mcp.
  3. Ask for a rate history. The first time, Claude shows a Connect button: sign in with your work email.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector once, then each member connects.

Tools

The server has two read-only tools. Your assistant decides when to call them, so you ask in plain language. The names, descriptions and parameters below are the ones your assistant receives.

list_series

List Canadian rate and market series · Open, no sign-in

Lists the available series (Government of Canada bond yields, CORRA, Canada Mortgage Bond yields and spreads, policy and prime rates, bank non-residential mortgage rates, inflation, USD/CAD) with each series' id, unit, frequency, source, first date and latest value. Use it to find ids for get_series and to answer questions about the latest value. To explain how a series is defined, sourced or calculated, call it with include_methodology set to true and a query or category that selects that series; each series then also carries its methodology (source, definition, calculation, timing, caveats and references).

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
querystringOptionalWords to match against series ids, names and descriptions, e.g. "cmb 5-year" or "corra"
categorybonds | corra | cmb | policy | mortgage | inflation | fxOptionalRestrict results to one category
include_methodologybooleanOptionalAdd each series' methodology. Narrow the results with query or category first.

Returns: count, series, unavailable

get_series

Get series history · Sign-in required

Returns date-aligned observations for one to ten series ids, optionally within a date range and converted to weekly, monthly or annual values. Each series comes with its unit, source citation, whether it is a derived estimate, and its methodology: source, definition, calculation, timing, caveats and references. Large requests are converted to a coarser frequency to fit, and the result says so and links the full CSV.

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
seriesstring[] (1 to 10)RequiredOne to ten series ids from list_series, e.g. ["goc-5y", "cmb-5y-estimate"]
start_datestringOptionalFirst date to include, YYYY-MM-DD
end_datestringOptionalLast date to include, YYYY-MM-DD
frequencynative | weekly | monthly | annualOptionalConvert to this frequency. Default native. Mixed frequencies are always converted to the coarsest one.
aggregationlast | meanOptionalHow to convert to a coarser frequency: last value in the period (default) or the period mean

Returns: columns, rows, frequency, aggregation, series, notes

Sign-in and privacy

Browsing the catalogue and latest values needs no account. The first time your assistant pulls a history, it opens a sign-in page: enter your work email, name, company and role, then the 6-digit code that Sphera Credit emails you. Access is free.

Sphera Credit keeps your email and name to run the sign-in, and your company and role in its customer records. For usage, Sphera Credit records which tool was called and when. The server receives only the tool calls your assistant makes, such as the series ids and dates it asks for, and never your conversation.

Open data files and Excel

The same series are open as files, with no sign-in. Values are Bank of Canada data; reuse follows the Bank's terms.

Frequently asked questions

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants call outside tools. An MCP server offers tools; once you add its address to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or another client, the assistant can call them when a question needs them.
